Stone Island came to be, somewhat by chance, in 1983. Carlo Rivetti and Massimo Osti collaborated on a small run of seven jackets constructed from a special double-sided fabric dubbed “Tela Stella“. The two-sided cloth typically used to construct truck tarpaulins was utilized in a small collection, heavily referencing military uniforms. This military and utiliotarian aesthetic has remained a crucial part of the Stone Island DNA to this day. That original collection also saw the first appearance of the iconic compass shoulder patch, which Rivetti explains “…symbolized love for the sea and an aim of constant research.”
It is known as the brand that’s redefined the common understanding of sportswear. Having immediately become a cult phenomenon, still today it maintains its position as a contemporary point of reference for younger generations. Stone Island’s strength lies in its unique capacity to work on the finished garment, via continuous experimentation with dyes and treatments created in the Sportswear Company’s color laboratory. A department capable of combining advanced technology, experience and human capacity, that over the years has developed more than 60,000 different dye recipes.
This passion for research and progression can still be found in Stone Island nearly 35 years later, which is why we are so excited to welcome it into the shop as our newest addition for Spring / Summer 2017. Found throughout the collection are garments treated with unique dying processes, creative methods and robust construction techniques.
With transitional pieces perfect for these refreshing spring months, this collection is filled with fantastic jackets, shorts, tees and accessories that you’ll find way too easy to wear every single day. The Stone Island Spring / Summer 2017 collection is available in-store now.
